Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician

Summary of the Position: The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician helps design, implement and operate the City’s Geographic Information System (GIS). The GIS Technician primary focus is on supporting GIS Data and mapping projects City-wide and will act as support to other city department on GIS related projects.
General Overview of Responsibilities:
Minimum Requirements: Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Environmental Science or related field and three (3) years of experience using GIS software and tools. Preferred qualifications: Certification in Geographic Information systems and working knowledge of municipal infrastructure and assets, familiarity with web mapping technologies including ArcGIS. Experience in municipality information technology, preferred. Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record per the City’s drivers Use of Vehicles for City Business policy throughout employment with the City.

The City of Leawood offers career development opportunities in which the employee could increase their experience, training, and pay. The position is eligible to receive merit-based pay increases every year (merit increase up to 5% increase). Employees also receive a Time In Service Bonus every three years of employment on their anniversary date equal to 5% of their annual salary.
